Omnodex is open-source software, dual-licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0) and a separate commercial license. You choose which license fits your use case.
AGPL-3.0 (open source)
The full Omnodex source code is available under the AGPL-3.0. You are free to use, modify, and distribute Omnodex under these terms.
The AGPL is a copyleft license. If you modify Omnodex and provide it as a network service (for example, offering Omnodex-based monitoring to your customers), you must make your modifications available under the same license. This ensures improvements flow back to the community.
The AGPL is an OSI-approved open-source license, used by projects like Grafana, Mattermost, Nextcloud, and Bitwarden.
Commercial license
A commercial license is available for organizations that need to use Omnodex without the AGPL's copyleft obligations. The commercial license:
- Removes the requirement to share modifications under the AGPL
- Includes access to Hosted, Pro, and Enterprise features (encrypted cloud dashboard, advanced rules, ML anomaly detection, cross-customer threat intelligence)
- Includes support SLAs and priority issue resolution
- Provides legal certainty for organizations with policies that require non-copyleft licenses

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Omnodex for free to monitor my own AI agents?
Yes. The Community tier is free with no usage limits. You can run the full local pipeline (interception, tracing, analysis, dashboard) to monitor your own agents under the AGPL. The AGPL's source-sharing requirement only applies if you modify Omnodex and provide the modified version as a service to others.
My company has a policy against AGPL software. What are my options?
Contact us for a commercial license. It provides the same software under terms that do not require source sharing, and includes features, support, and legal simplicity that enterprise teams need.
Can I use Omnodex in a product or service I sell to customers?
Under the AGPL, yes, but you must make your complete source code (including modifications) available to your users under the AGPL. If you prefer not to share your source code, a commercial license covers this use case.
Can I fork Omnodex and build a competing product?
Under the AGPL, you can fork Omnodex, but your fork and any modifications must also be released under the AGPL. The commercial license does not permit competitive use.
I want to contribute to Omnodex. Do I need to sign a CLA?
Yes. All contributors sign a Contributor License Agreement (CLA) that grants Omnodex, LLC the right to distribute contributions under both the AGPL and the commercial license. This is standard practice for dual-licensed projects and is required to maintain the ability to offer commercial licenses. The CLA is a one-time process handled automatically when you open your first pull request.
What parts of Omnodex are not open source?
The open-source repository contains the complete local pipeline: all interceptors, the event log, the rule engine with community rules, the local dashboard, the CLI, and the encryption and feature extraction clients. Hosted infrastructure (the cloud API, encrypted dashboard hosting), Pro-tier advanced rules, and Enterprise-tier threat intelligence are proprietary and available under the commercial license.
Can I audit the source code for security?
Absolutely. The full source is on GitHub. We encourage security audits and welcome responsible disclosure through our security policy.
